Water supply is a critical activity. For many of our customers (hospital, factories, airport), an unexpected interruption to the water supply or an alteration of its quality would have dramatic consequences. For other customers, it would be an extremely annoying, possibly costly and unpleasant experience.
Macao Water has therefore implemented an efficient monitoring system and a comprehensive policy that prevent the occurence of any such problem:
- Numerous monitors are placed throughout the treatment plants and the network to measure the water quality and pressure. They also measure the backwash status, the equipment operational status and the chemical dosing inside the plants, as well as the flow rates and the level of water in the storage tanks on the network.
- Staff work on shift, 24 hours a day in our central control room, to watch over the water supply and to react immediately to any problem by calling maintenance teams.
- Our own internal quality standards are set well within the limits of the EU regulations.
- TOPKAPI , a French software for real-time process control, centralizes the data from the various monitors, provides information to on-duty staff in the form of a graphical, immediately understandable format (historical graphs, curves, schematics) and triggers alarms when conditions exceed our internal standards.
This system also allows the operators to control the treatment and distribution operations directly from a centralized location.
The next time that you turn on your water tap, think how much modern technology, expertise and dedication is behind this simple task!
