“ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System” and Certification

In order to ensure that our products and services continually evolve to exceed customers’ expectations, and that the overall productivity and all aspects of our operation are constantly improved, Macao Water implemented the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System starting from 2001 and was certified in July 2003.

Derived from its Integrated Management System (IMS) Policy, the company has established a number of Quality Objectives which are related to the company’s compliance to water quality standards, customer services and the overall performance of the company. These Quality Objectives are measured monthly and reviewed periodically so as to achieve continual improvement.

Staff participation is the key to success in the implementation of the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System. The company also delivers the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System messages to its staff regularly.

Starting January 2003, the company implemented the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System for the entire company and conducts internal audits with the assistance from the Macao Productivity & Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM) as well as the collaboration of the trained internal staff so as to assess the effectiveness of the Quality Management System and to ensure that the company complies to the requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 standard.

The company was awarded the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System certificate on the 4th July 2003. It also became the first public utility company in Macao being awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certification for the entire company.

Followed by the ISO 9001:2000 certification, the company has also implemented an Occupational Health & Safety Management System in order to effectively eliminate or minimize occupational health & safety risks to staff and other related parties associated with the company’s activities, and to assure the compliance to relevant laws and regulations.

To achieve product excellence and quality service, the company adheres to the key principles of ISO 9001:2000, which include continual improvement and customer focus. At the same time, it also commits to fully support, promote and maintain a safe and healthy environment for its staff.

“OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Management System”

“OHSAS 18001” refers to the “Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series”. It is a structured approach to implement the OH&S management. The elements of a successful occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS) consist of OH&S Policy, Planning, Implementation and Operation, Checking and Corrective Action, Management Review and ultimately Continual Improvement. In March 2005, Macao Water implemented the “OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health & Safety Management System” in order to eliminate or minimize occupational health & safety (OH&S) risks to staff and other related parties associated with the company’s activities, and to assure the compliance to laws and regulations.

Macao Water has already started the promotion of OH&S years ago. On the 11th September 2001, Macao Water set up the Health & Safety Committee, which is composed of representatives from management and staff in order to enhance the OH&S culture and communication within the company. Then in 2003, Macao Water signed the “Occupational Safety & Health Charter” which is a document signed by the employers and employees under the witness by the government’s Labour Affairs Bureau, to encourage both parties to work together to create and maintain a healthy and safe working environment. Macao Water was the first public utility company in Macao to sign the Charter. With the active participation and endeavors from the staff, the OH&S culture has been established and has laid a profound foundation for its future development.

Macao Water’s management fully supports and promises to continuously adopt and observe all the measures, regulations and guidelines concerning occupational health and safety issues.

“ISO14001:2004 Environmental Management System”

In order to give our full support to the Macau SAR’s environmental policy, in 2007 Macao Water launched the preparation for the ISO14001 Environmental Management System certification in order that the company can implement its environmental management actions according to international standards and requirements. The certification was planned in 2008. The Integrated Management System policy will serve as the basis for setting environmental objectives, conducting environmental assessments and stipulating control measures. The system will be reviewed regularly to ensure continual improvement in the environmental management of the company and to foster a green environment for our customers and staff.
