Establishment and Promotion of Healthy and Safe Company Culture in Macao Water
In order to implement the principles of "Quality Oriented" and "Customer Focus", and to promote the occupational health and safety as well as environmental protection, the Health and Safety Committee was established on 11 September 2001, and all the departments in Macao Water have been working effectively under their original operations. Consequently a good environment and a strong basis for the development of occupational health and safety are formed in our Company.
Occupational health and safety is always our critical concern, and its successful implementation and continuous improvement depends on everybody in the company. The safety policies concern the administrative, economical, legal and educational aspects of its implementation, guiding us to do the right things while preventing and stopping us from going in the wrong direction. For example, we have added some occupational safety and health related requirements to the tenders; we have held different kinds of training courses and the Occupational Safety Charter signing ceremony under the instruction and full support of Labour and Employment Bureau. Managers should spend 5 minutes before work every day to think of the health and safety issues and the corresponding arrangements. Occupation health and Safety should then become a custom, become part of the company culture and become a success!
The Occupational Health and Safety Committee is constructed by representatives from all departments and representatives from our workers' association, and works efficiently with the original operational mechanism of each department. It collects ideas, communicates and implements the occupational health and safety policies and measures through regular meeting with members; absorbs experiences from and exchange ideas of occupational health and safety work with Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan to continuously push the committee work and achievement to the next better stage.
The "Occupational Safety Charter" encourages employers to cooperate with employees to create and maintain a healthy and safe working environment. Macao Water has signed the "Occupational Safety Charter" under the witness of Macau Government. This charter acts as a milestone of the health and safety work. The "Occupational Safety Charter Signing Ceremony" was successfully held in May 2003 with director of the Labour and Employment Bureau, VIP guests and press presented. During the ceremony Mr. Shun Ka Hung awarded the "Charter Certificate" to Macao Water on behalf of the Labour and Employment bureau. The Labour and Employment Bureau held a health and safety seminar in September 2003. Macao Water has actively participated by organizing company visit; writing papers on health and safety work and becoming one of the benchmark companies in Macau.
The health and safety technology and products have already become an international focus, and its implementation will soon become one of the core objectives of businesses. With the implementation of ISO 9001 and the need of continuous improvement in all health and safety related subjects, the implementation of OHSAS18001 will become a must; which is also one of the major targets that Macao Water is now working on. The purpose is to establish an active ‘Healthy and Safe Company Culture’ in Macao Water, which will also become the motivity of continuous improvements and development of the Company.
